“Bella y rara luz/ que fluye, como el afecto, del interior”// «Beautiful and strange light / that flows, like affection, from within»
Antes de volver a ser un estado nacional independiente en 1990, la República de Letonia experimentó dos guerras mundiales, el nazismo y el comunismo, la ignominia de la ocupación, la alegría de la liberación. Una hilaridad que no se limita a lo humorístico permea la antología Selected poems (Shearsman books, UK, 2019), donde la inventiva brilla en las traducciones al inglés de Ieva Lešinska, mezclada con la infinita variedad idiomática. Con la viveza que atribuimos a los momentos decisivos, la voz individual, sin censura, del escritor letón Aleksandrs Čaks (Riga, 1901 – 1950) gana autoridad en el septuagésimo aniversario de su fallecimiento: cada verso suyo (“empapado de los olores y la verborrea de las calles, / enfrentado a la calma y el sosiego”) es un epílogo, una despedida, un puente.
Estación Poesía es una revista literaria en papel y también en formato digital editada por el CICUS (Centro de Iniciativas Culturales de la Universidad de Sevilla, España), que contribuye sustancialmente a las deliberaciones culturales entre países desde sus inicios, con poemas y ensayos desde diversas perspectivas críticas y sobre textos de cualquier época, período o tradición. Inventiveness shines in Ieva Lešinska’s English translations, mixed with an infinite variety of idioms. With the vividness that we attribute to decisive moments, the individual, uncensored voice of the Latvian writer Aleksandrs Čaks (Riga, 1901 – 1950) gains authority on the 70th anniversary of his death: each verse (“drenched in smells and verbiage of the streets, / faced with calm and tranquility ”) means an epilogue, a farewell, a bridge.
